The AFJROTC is headed to Covington today. They are hosting a Precision Pistol Outdoor Tournament, individual and team events: the Dr. Bill Davis Memorial Service and Team Event.
Since I really know nothing about pistol/gun tournaments, click here to read more information, the documentation and download the application. If this is your gig, hope to see you there!
On January 31, 2017, 8 years from when Lt. Helton was "boots on the ground" in Iraq, "In Defense of Freedom" was dedicated to the 14 Fallen Defenders since 09/11. Retired Colonel Dennis Keegan initiated the project in the fall of 2015, by commissioning the statue that sits atop the granite base. With the help of Darwin Bush who made the majority of the contacts, Dick Danner of Danner construction donated the concrete for the base and sidewalk, and the brick, Ted Freeman of Danner construction donated labor and oversaw the construction.
On January 31st, at 10:00am, the dedication ceremony will begin following the installation of "In Defense Of Freedom," a memorial to the 14 Fallen SF Defenders since 09/11. As we make the final preparations, I find myself reflecting on the recent installation of the Fallen Heroes Memorial at the Walton County Veterans Park in December. It seems like only yesterday we said goodbye, it seems like a lifetime since he's been gone.
The day was overcast and occasionally a little misty - just the way LT(Joe, Joseph) liked it. Tony Price headed up the ceremony, the AFJROTC GA 956 provided the Color Guard, Joanne Nucci did an amazing rendition of the National Anthem, and the Monroe High School Band honored all branches of service with the Armed Forces Medley. The opening prayer was led by Reverend Dane Wagner. Speakers Kevin Little, Jody Hice, US 10th District Representative, and Bruce Williamson, GA 115 District Representative, and (BG)(Ret) Steven E. Blanton, US Army, all spoke eloquently and from the heart.
June 1, 2016
June not only marks the passing of another month, but also the passing of another successful Flat Joe 5k for the Lt. Helton Memorial Foundation, which raised another 5k to put towards the statue's pedestal and installation when the Veterans Memorial Park is finished.
