Once again, everyone came through for the Flat Joe 5k. Despite the threatening weather, we had a record number of participants in the 1 mile, and we had over 100 runners in the 5k this year! Yeah! The majority of the participants were Flat Joe 5k race veterans, and for some, this was their fourth year. This event feels more and more like a family reunion every year!
MANY thanks to our Race Director Jordanne Cary, and to our many sponsors and volunteers: DAxC (Dynamic Ax Consultants)- T-shirt sponosr, ASI Pool Plastering - race sponsor, ACourse/Line Finish Line Services - Finish Line Sponsor, John's Supermarkets - refreshment and race sponsor, Patti Souther State Farm, Monroe Police Department, Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Walton County AFJROTC, Blue Hound Custom Tees, Bruce Williamson, Alcovy Sign Professionals, Eric Guzman, Cody Holland, Peter Casola, Chris Murphy, Julie Cabot, Sarah Azain, Mark Bush, Kathy and Bill Thompson, Linda Hoff, Mitch Alligood, Jarrod Rowe, Howard Johnson, Jessica Cabot, Whitney Queen, Jordan Rowe, Mark and Sherry Cary.
The new route was appreciated especially by those who ran the hills the last two years. It had just a little more meaning as the race started and stopped at the Walton County Government Building where the Fallen Heroes Memorial silently stands watch. Runners were able to see what their registration fees from the past three years have produced. This year's proceeds, in addition to benefitting the Joseph Helton Scholarship fund, will go towards finishing the pedestal for the Fallen Heroes Memorial.
Of course, you can't please everyone!
The Lt. Helton Memorial Foundation is run solely by volunteers.
