This Saturday, May 19, 2018, we will be hosting our 5th annual Flat Joe 5k. The Shadow Warrior Foundation will be joining us, come see this amazing team do the 5k, the memory will stick with you forever. Loganville CrossFit has promised to bring a group - I'm excited to see what they have to show us! And if you haven't been to the Government Building lately, you'll be impressed with the progress over the last month. In June, the statue comes back down, so we can prepare the base for the finished pedestal commemorating the Fallen Heroes of Walton County. If you think you know a name that should be engraved, please let us know!
From our Inaugural run,
To our 5th Annual,
we have been blessed with some loyal sponsors and runners who have been with us for every event! A Course/Line Finish Line Services travels from Valdosta with equipment every year, and does an outstanding job with keeping us on time, getting everyone through the chute, and awards handed out smoothly, efficiently, and with a unique sense of humor. Our AFJROTC cadets from Walton County show up first thing in the morning to set up, run the race (challenging other JROTC schools to qualify for a scholarship), and stay until everything is broken down and the grounds are clean! State Farm Patti Souther and Bruce Williamson are both quick to offer their support as sponsor, and Patti even runs when she can make the event. Tim Stewart Funeral Home has supported most of our events. Alcovy signs Gary Potter always does an outstanding job whenever we need a banner or signs. We are working on the list of runners/Ghost Runners who have consistently registered every year, and even have a little thank you gift from the Lt. Helton Memorial Foundation for their loyal support. Next year our five year club will be a little larger, as quite a few runners and sponsors didn't come on board until our second year.
The Flat Joe 5k is this Saturday. Registration is still open, it's $33.00 online plus a $2.00 registration fee from RunSignUp, it will be $38.00 Saturday morning before the race. The savings to sign up early aren't much, but you have a better chance of getting a T-shirt, as well as getting the size you want! The shirts are amazingly soft and comfortable. The challenge coins are cooler. And, we have a small gift for our runners and volunteers who have been with us every year. We hope you will come walk, run, or celebrate with us on Saturday. Afterwards you can head on down to the Farmer's Market in Monroe for another Saturday morning treat!
See you Saturday! Jiffy
